The Cèze valley
Discover the Cèze country and its surroundings
Walking along the Cèze river you will discover an exceptionally varied vegetation. Montclus is a picturesque village on the bank of the river, with steep streets and beautiful view as far as the eyes can see.
Goudargues is a cool village hidden under centenarian plane trees; its never-ending sources gave it its nickname of “Venice of the Gard".
At Cornillon, an ancient fortified site, small picturesque streets will lead you to a unique viewpoint on the valley.
The Roque sur Cèze, a medieval village, has received the “most beautiful French village” label. It is built on a rocky hill over the Sautadet waterfalls, an exceptional site made of 5-million-year-old limestone.
Aiguèze is situated a few kilometers away and yet another village which was granted the “most beautiful French village” label. This old medieval fortress overhangsthe Ardèche and offers a great panorama on the river, the entrance of the Gorges and the plain of the Rhône.
At the Chartreuse de Valbonne, a historic monument from the 13th century, you can visit the monument, discover the vineyard or take part in cultural activities all year long.
You can discover the steam distillation of lavender at the domain of Vilgoutrès in Verfeuil, as well as the various products made from organic lavender oil.
At the oil mill in Verfeuil, taste premium quality olive oils.
On the ramparts of Lussan you will enjoy the open vewpoint on the garrigue.
The Concluses de Lussan are wild gorges that were dug by the Aiguillon creek. There is an astounding view from the top of the panoramic viewpoint. You can walk down the gorge and once at the bottom, in the bed of the creek, enjoy this special moment; you are surrounded with silence and beauty.
The cave of Cocalière is among the most beautiful caves in France. It has a 1200-meter-long tunnel, which makes it very easy to access and visit.
Close to Orgnac l’Aven, the Aven cave is world famous and belongs to the “Grand site de France” label. It features an underground network of 3 hectares open to the public. A multitude of crystallizations has developed in the cave rooms; gigantism and fineness intertwine for a spectacular effect.
Discover the scented paths of the garrigues and the coolness or the banks of the Cèze.
Whether walking, riding or cycling, you will come across the charm of fountains, wash houses, bridges, sheds made of dry stones or wells all along your way.
Whether you are up for a quiet or a sporty walk, the 330 kilometers of trekking paths (starting directly from the Gîtes de Saint-Gély) connecting the 16 villages in the valley lead you to discover the numerous resources of a huge natural environment.
